Right on your doorstep is Coombs Valley, a magical woodland nature reserve in the heart of the Staffordshire Moorlands.
There's also the Peak Wildlife Park where you and your children can interact with the animals - it's just one mile away!
If you're feeling more energetic then why not try supervised rock climbing and abseiling? An exciting and memorable day out for all levels of ability, just 4 miles away.
Walking at stunning Mill Dale and the Dove Dale stepping stones are just 6 miles away, as is the Hawksmoor ancient forest nature reserve, just waiting for you to explore it.
Try the Hartington walks, either a 6 mile round trip through Beresford and Wolfcotes Dale, or a 5 mile round trip from the famous cheese shop to Pilsbury Castle.
Cycle hire is available in the next village which also has the starting point for cycling the converted, disused railway line now known as Manifold Way.
The Tissington Trail will take you as far as the High Peak Trail, or just try one of the many other routes into the Peaks.
Let your dogs off the leash along the Monsal Trail, an 8.5 mile traffic free route for walkers, cyclists and wheelchair users over viaducts, through some of the Peak Districts disused train tunnels and the most spectacular limestone dales.
More dramatic scenery can be enjoyed when visiting The Roaches. You may even spot some wallabies which escaped from a zoo in the 1930's!
The 1,000 year old historic town of Leek has annual fine food markets and arts festivals, and is 6 miles away.
Ashbourne hosts an annual Highland Games among other events, and at Christmas the shopping stays open late with lantern processions and a hog roast.
6 miles East of Moorland View Farm takes you to the Churnet Valley Railway. This is a journey back to the classic days of railway steam travel that passes through beautiful countryside known as Staffordshire's "Little Switzerland".
If you prefer something a little more relaxing, the Caldon Canal starts its journey from the Froghall Basin, just 5 miles away.
For a beautiful lakeside walk you can visit nearby Rudyard Lake, from where the parents of one of Britain's most famous writers were inspired to name him, or Tittesworth reservoir which also has a childrens area and some water activities. Both are within a very short drive and have on site parking.
The stunning National Trust location of Ilam Park and the White Peak Estate is only 6 miles away, and well worth a visit.
A little further afield, Pooles Cavern at the spa town of Buxton can be reached with a 30 minute drive across an incredible landscape, as can the beautiful Wye valley and other famous Derbyshire towns such as Bakewell and Matlock.
Or spend a day at Carsington Water reservoir which has so much for all the family, and is just 30 minutes away by car.
